Combining an artistic insight, a ceramics background, and a love
for bonsai, Rob began making bonsai containers in 2001.
Not long after, he and his wife Michelle moved to Lake Helen
in Central Florida where he opened Taiko-Earth Pottery.
For bonsai pottery, durability and aesthetics both play vital roles. Rob carefully chooses from 7 different frostproof clays, each with their own distinct color and tactile characteristics. All pots are fired to full maturity, rendering them able to handle hard frosts and rough weathering. In his current kiln, he can fire pieces up to 23" across.
Rob makes custom containers for both the enthusiast and the well-seasoned bonsai artist. A variety of different shapes and styles can be ordered including slabs, rounds, cascades, rectangles, ovals, soft-cornered rectangles, crescents, and unique customer designed pieces. Suggestions can be made for the appropriate pot for your tree if needed.
Local conventions are attended to showcase Taiko-Earth Pottery, including the Joy of Bonsai convention at KAWA Bonsai Society in North Florida, and the Florida State Convention for Bonsai Society of Florida (BSF). Bonsai clubs can request a display to purchase pottery at their club.
Being a certified Visual and Performing Arts teacher, Rob can also be hired to lecture at your local bonsai club. Presentations on pot selection and facilitated workshops on hand-building methods for bonsai pot construction are offered. Please email Rob here to inquire about vending or lectures.
